Jonathan Sexton

Jonathan Sexton is the principal and founder of Sexton Law Firm, established in 1994. He now serves as Senior Partner of Sexton Weldon Law Firm. Mr. Sexton graduated from the University of Georgia in 1984 with a degree in criminal justice. He went on to work in the common carrier industry from 1984-1988 before attending law school. Mr. Sexton attended Georgia State University School of Law from 1988-1991 and obtained his Juris Doctor in Law in June 1991. After graduating and being admitted to the bar in 1991, he went to work for a civil litigation firm that handled multi-million dollar civil cases until he struck out independently in 1994.
Mr. Sexton is a past member of the American Association for Justice, a past area vice-president, and a current member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and is admitted to practice law in Georgia and Florida. Jaqueline Cortez Avila is a bilingual associate attorney at Sexton Weldon, fluent in Spanish and English. Ms. Avila began at our firm as a law clerk before passing the bar in 2023 and joining full-time as an associate attorney practicing in the areas of criminal law, immigration law, personal injury, and estate planning. Ms. Avila earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Georgia State University in 2019, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Ms. Avila worked for one year at an Immigration law firm in Atlanta, Georgia, before attending Georgia State University College of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctor and graduated in the top 15% of her class in 2023.
